Pros

Work is challenging and you gain relevant and useful experience. Kymeta pays relatively well (some call it "hazard pay"). Free food and beer. For the most part, the employees are good people. The technology is sound and the product will be successful (just maybe not at Kymeta).

Cons

First and foremost, while Kymeta advertises itself as a 'start-up': it's not. Resources are siloed and people don't typically perform multiple tasks (as you'd expect at start-up). You're hired to perform a specific task. Performing tasks outside your 'assignment' (even if you have relevant experience) is not encouraged and sometimes seems actively discouraged and roadblocked. Second, instead of getting a minimally acceptable product to market (and working out the known issues), Kymeta changes course on a regular basis to try to make a more perfect antenna with thousands of features and focuses too much on marketing and buzzwords. Read for yourself in the press releases and see how many adjectives are used to describe the antenna PLUS watch the TEDx talk the CEO gave with magical dreams of fighting Ebola (granted, it fits the TEDx mantra). Third, if you criticize or disagree with senior leadership (even based out of experience), you can expect that you'll be retaliated against (be it firing, preferential treatment, ignored, or not asked for input). If you're a "yes man," you're perfect for the company. If you're good at 'politicking,' you'll be fine and will likely be kept around regardless of your abilities or skills. Lastly, many employees have inflated egos and never admit they are wrong. I believe this is a systemic problem because of leadership - failure and mistakes are not an option; therefore, no one is willing to admit they're wrong. Because of this and the third issue above, you end up with employees with a weird mix of egos while simultaneously watching over their shoulder at every step. As you would expect, turnover is pretty high.
