Pros

Very Low workload and low stress invironment if you are able to tollerate being bombarded with content regarding violence towards children including sex abuse. The job is very specific and has ridged processes and procedures which removes any stress or guilt regarding what call to make in what high stake situation. The staff is trusted to modulate their own work schedual including weekly days off once 90day training is over. the definition of cushy. no paper work at home.

Cons

The CAC is securely intertwined within a police station and police investigations and procedures. I witnessed children who had commited crimes being railroaded into incarceration and live long sex offender statues -- I support the proclaimed mission of the CAC which is to advocate, support and provide care and resources for children who have experience violent crime -- I don't support an unproblimitized or unconsidered trajectory towards life long subjigation as an outcase when research sugests kids respond really well to particular types of treatment. when they have exibited sexually inappropriat behaviors or comited violent crime. there where several missed opportunities for outcomes beyond the criminalization of children who comit crimes even if they have comited violence or sex abuse. I feel this has to do with poximity and constent communication bettween counselors embeded within a literal police station. I dont have much to say about the way investigations or communications rain their course in dealing with adult violent offenders and sex offenders. that being said I watched coworkers become a bit to immeshed in police work - and positive outcome for police force that in some cases and interest in meeting LE need for particular information outways client rights or needs or even positive regard towards clients. I was not a fan of the lack of imagination the org has in dealing with child perpotratiors -- Its hard to excuse the lack of imaginations because for all intensive perposes the individuals who make up the team at the CAC are elite and dont have anything near the workload or stress level of tradional social service workers. The extra time should be utilized problemsolving and advancing pipelines to services -- it often used playing around with febreeze -- and going home early -- or doing webinars that are cool but not directy benificial to the clients they actually serve regulary. also dont let the wild tree of interviews confuse you into thinking youll be working at a childrens hospital in Chicacago -- there are therapists at the hospital & therapist at the police station and hour away from chicago. I dont really align with the mission of the police generally

Pros

La Rabida Children’s Hospital is a truly mission-driven organization where you can feel the impact of the work every single day. What stands out most is the leadership—there is an incredible level of energy, passion, and commitment coming from the top. The CEO, COO, and CNO lead by example and have created real momentum around culture, accountability, and quality of care. Their visibility, engagement, and genuine dedication to doing what’s right for patients and staff is both refreshing and motivating. This leadership team has also brought in strong, high-caliber leaders across departments who genuinely care—about their teams, about patients, and about continuous improvement. There is a clear focus on raising standards, improving processes, and building a culture of collaboration and respect. You can see and feel the positive changes happening, and it creates excitement about where the organization is headed. If you’re someone who wants to be part of meaningful change and work alongside people who are passionate and driven, this is a place where you can grow and make a real difference

Cons

As with any organization undergoing transformation, there are still pockets of resistance to change. Some long-tenured staff continue to rely on “the way things have always been done,” which can create inconsistency in processes and slow progress at times. Continued focus on accountability, education, and alignment with best practices will help ensure everyone is moving forward together.

Pros

The hospital has a good mission.

Cons

There has been a significant and detrimental change in the La Rabida culture following the change in the hospital’s executive leadership, specifically under the new President, Rolla Sweiss/ CEO and President. The shift in the organizational climate stems from a perceived lack of fairness and trustworthiness emanating from the leadership team ( CEO, CIO/COO, CNO, Executive Director of Support Services, VP of Finance) The rules and standards appear fluid, applied selectively based on personal relationships rather than professional performance. This deeply biased approach has fundamentally destroyed the staff's belief in the hospital's capacity for objective management. The direct consequence of this perceived unfairness is the rise in employee fear. Staff members are increasingly hesitant to voice concerns, offer constructive criticism, or even ask procedural questions, fearing retribution or isolation from the favored group. When employees are afraid to speak up—whether about safety concerns, resource allocation, or procedural deficiencies—the quality and security of patient care are placed at direct risk. In a facility dedicated to the health of vulnerable children, the internal environment should be one of collaboration and psychological safety. Currently, La Rabida's culture is the opposite of this, creating a toxic environment that stands in stark contrast to its strong mission.
