Pros
Even with a full day of projects I still get done around 3 pm. I would say that is the biggest pro to this job but that's not the case for everyone. I met with the owner monthly for leadership development and to learn more about the business. Yet, those meetings soon stopped because others felt I was getting special treatment.
Cons
I have been working here for two years and was promoted to being a crew leader within the first 6 months of my employment. In the two years, I was given the hope that I would have the opportunity to be promoted into a manager position by the owner. Once the owner who I had met with handed off the majority of leadership responsibilities to the two other managers my experience worsened. They took advantage of the fact that I got jobs done faster and put their workload on mine, which is fine but my pay did not reflect those extra jobs.
They rewarded an employee to be a manager, who quit because their friend got fired. That employee had just returned to the company after months of not working there and received a promotion even though I have dedicated 2 years with them without quitting for such a trivial thing. When the managers don't like you it is better to get out since they have their favorites.
Another con is that the pay structure does not give you the money that you earned throughout the day. It limits the amount you get because there is a certain range you are given, instead of a percentage of each job which is what they had previously. I thought the previous pay structure was fairer to the employees.
A recent development happened that opened my eyes to the discrimination that I was receiving. I was given the week schedule a week before and was not scheduled to work for 3 out of the 5 days, which is crazy because I was told I'd be able to work with a full schedule there. On a Monday morning, I received a text from the owner asking if I would like to work since the manager who made the schedule was out. This kind of treatment from the manager makes me question how ethical they are being. When the owner is in charge I get to work but when he is out, the managers take advantage of that and don't schedule me. It doesn't make a lot of sense and it shows how much the managers dislike me despite my hard work and the money I earn for them. When the owner was in charge I was consistently having full days of work but now that he has given the managers the responsibilities I don't get a full week of work.
I am not writing this as a bitter, employee who has been fired, but one that is continuing to work for the company despite the terrible environment. I would like people to know that loyalty and hard work does not pay off here if the managers don't take a liking to you.
