Pros

They had a generous 401K employer match.

Cons

I worked for Lantern Community Services for just under 3 years. During that time, there were 3 different Executive Directors, which is highly unusual and should in and of itself tell you a lot about this organization. It was the last few months of my tenure under the current leadership that turned out to be one of the worst work experiences in my career. I worked in a position that interacted directly with senior leadership. The turnover rate was extremely high. I think everyone expects a certain degree of turnover whenever there is a change in leadership, but the terminations (both voluntary and involuntary) have continued. Leadership has no issue with making employment decisions as business decisions - with a complete disregard for the lives they are affecting. What kind of organization lays off a single parent of two children when they are on vacation visiting a relative who is dying? The people involved in this decision are still at the organization. I do not understand why people like this want to work in social service organizations that are supposed to help our most vulnerable populations. They don't even treat their employees right. I've watched staff be undermined and belittled. I've experienced leadership put out a search with a search firm behind someone's back before they were let go (and the person was a good employee, but leadership wanted someone with more certifications). Loyalty, doing a good job, and having a positive affect on clients means nothing to leadership. If you don't have a good network of people you know that are in the same circles as leadership, then you will be treated poorly. This is how they operate. I firmly believe that company culture starts from the top. And the pervasive culture at Lantern Community Services is one driven by fear. This is not somewhere you want to work, even for a year or two until you find something else. Do not leave your job to work at this organization. This is the kind of organization that you will regret accepting an offer from a few months into your new job. There are plenty of other social service organizations doing good work that also treat their employees the way they should be treated. No one should be living in constant fear about how they're going to pay their bills because they don't have job security. Make sure to read the reviews on Lantern Organization. While the Lantern Community Services admins of this account want to separate themselves from Lantern Organization because of the negative reviews, my W-2 was from Lantern Organization and I worked for Lantern Community Services. I've read those reviews and know that they were written by employees of Lantern Community Services.

Cons

- horrible management - always short staff - inconsistent case loads - no union can be fired at any time regardless of how much you contributed to the company
