Pros
Good for those it accepts. Good Opportunities.
Cons
I would like to share some honest feedback regarding the LaunchCode recruiting process. From my observation, it seems that many individuals accepted into the program are not originally from the local area — some not even from the country. While I understand and support LaunchCode’s mission to provide opportunities for people from all backgrounds, I’m concerned that this focus may unintentionally overlook local candidates who have long been part of the community. Many participants in the program appear to secure roles at major local companies such as Centene and Mastercard, often without holding degrees or certifications. While it’s great that LaunchCode helps people enter the tech field, this approach can make it more difficult for others — especially local graduates who have dedicated years to their studies — to get their start in the industry through traditional means. I believe LaunchCode has the potential to create a more balanced approach that supports all aspiring technologists, including those who were born and raised in the community and are equally eager to contribute to its growth. I encourage you to consider ways to uplift every individual working to build a career in tech. If you disagree, I invite you to review some LinkedIn profiles of current apprentices at companies like Centene and Mastercard — I believe it may help illustrate my perspective.
