Pros

Learn Amp have built a good product and the people are genuinely nice.

Cons

If you want to propel your career, this is definitely not the place to do it. The people are genuinely lovely, but the company is still small (and not growing) because the Senior Leadership Team have a lot of hairbrained ideas that amount to nothing. Most are well intended but lack evidence or execution. Under different leadership the business has potential, though there are better learning platforms out there these days (and lots of them). Whilst I wish them success, the founders who still run the business, are 'four really nice guys' who don't seem to have a clue what they're doing.

Learn Amp Response

Thank you firstly for acknowledging that we have a good product and team: we’re very proud of both. I’m sorry you feel the way you do about your experience with us and about us as a leadership team, not an outcome we ever want and one we will always look to learn from. I acknowledge that we can’t always progress everyone in their career with us, indeed sometimes we have to call time during probationary period when it’s not working as we have in this case. I also appreciate that there are substantial differences in the working environment in a smaller, growing start-up over that found in larger businesses. Maybe we should have explored this more during the recruitment process to ensure better alignment. For the record although we are a small business, we are profitable and growing (42% last year). It’s true we aren’t growing as fast as some of our direct competitors but then they have mostly raised venture capital funding and are carrying large losses (burning cash) that fund that faster growth. There are a lot of learning platforms out there so I imagine for certain customers there will be better option, it all comes down to need. I would say that we have been in lead industry analyst Craig Weiss’s top 3 globally for the last three years so we must be doing something right! I appreciate good advice, we’re in the learning industry after all. Joe and I do listen but in the end it is our job to make decisions even if others disagree with them. For example, you mention about communicating outside of work hours. We actually have a policy built by the team around this. It recognises that we are responsible for our own downtime, not others. We do use Slack and other platform when we need to, and when we are off it is our responsibility to signal that and mute comms. We reach out to people outside of office hours only by phone message/WhatsApp or by call when it is genuinely unavoidable. Likewise, we run a process called Explore where we run experiments to test ideas before investing more in them. What we don’t have is the time to research every idea extensively, we’d have failed years ago if we did. We move fast, trying things and switching tack again if needs be. I appreciate this type of work environment isn’t for everyone. Finally, you know the individual reasons as to why those people left: one left us in the lurch one week in to take a higher paid job he’d continued to interview for after starting with us, and the other two people (who we regret losing) wanted to go and work somewhere entirely different in nature so nothing that we could have done would have affected their decision. Overall, our attrition rates are very low which along with the largely positive reviews on GD I think reflect more accurately the working culture here at Learn Amp. It doesn’t mean we have it all nailed but we do try hard to optimise our employee experience. Duncan (CEO)

Pros

Learn Amp truly embodies its company values in everything it does. You’ll always feel supported no matter which department you belong to, everyone is approachable, collaborative, and genuinely cares about helping one another succeed. Leadership here sets a strong example; managers act as true leaders, not just bosses, fostering trust and empowerment within their teams. The company actively listens to employee feedback, your voice is heard, and your opinions and suggestions are genuinely valued and considered. There’s a real commitment to both personal and professional growth, with a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement. It’s an inspiring place to develop your career while being part of a culture that genuinely invests in its people.

Cons

Because the company’s product is so extensive and ever-evolving, it can be hard to switch off after your shift, especially when you’ve just discovered something new or interesting. I often find myself continuing to test, explore, and unpick the product even outside of working hours, simply because it’s so engaging and mentally stimulating. If you’re someone who prefers routine or repetitive tasks, this might not be the right fit. Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, and some issues can require deep investigation and testing to fully understand. It’s a workplace that keeps your curiosity constantly active.

Pros

I’ve been at Learn Amp for around six months and it’s been an extremely positive experience so far. The company gives you a lot of autonomy and flexibility in how you work, which I’ve found both motivating and empowering. The team is full of smart, supportive, and genuinely wonderful people who make collaboration enjoyable. Our all hands days are lots of fun, as are office days, collaborative sessions, socials, etc. The product itself is really interesting, yet the team are constantly innovating and enhancing. There is always something new or improved being worked on. Operationally, there are well-defined processes in place, but also plenty of room to experiment and bring your own ideas to the table. The customers are ambitious and trying to achieve exciting things within Learning & Development, so as someone with a broad background in education and learning, I find this incredibly fascinating and rewarding. I feel very inspired to help them help their people.

Cons

So far I haven't experienced any cons for me, but I appreciate that we're all different and start up style environments aren't for everyone - although Learn Amp is far more mature than a typical start up. Here are some potential cons for others: The product is interesting but not out of the box, so there’s a steep learning curve at first, The customer base is varied and can be challenging, but that also means the work is rewarding and impactful (as both the challenges and the impact is on real people!) The flexibility and autonomy might not suit everyone — it works best for self-starters.
