Pros

Though hourly wage is low, their commission percentage is decent when compared to other retail optical competitors. They have many high end frame brands.

Cons

Their training was low quality and very hit and miss! I was told they expected new employees to complete online training modules at home in their spare time on their own computer, on their days off and/or in their evenings off! Then I heard they stopped that idea due to a potential lawsuit from a former employee. Even so, the "on-the-job training" was a joke! Sporadic at best! The sales manager gave negative feedback to newbies 99% of the time! So you never know when you are actually doing anything "right"!! The store manager could be condescending if you asked her a (relevant) question, unless you were one of her favorites, that is. The atmosphere at my particular store was all about fitting in with the little clique! Forget being led by a mature, objective manager who is able to see the positive in all of her/his employees - whether the manager has personally a lot in common with them or not! Even if your sales numbers are very decent on a consistent basis and even if they know you are very interested in your job and you're making the effort, if you don't "socially" fit in with the female manager and her cronies, you will talked about frequently and you will be BE OUT (as in let go, sooner or later)! My manager wanted us to come 15 min's before store opened for a "huddle" to go over relevant info. Yet, if one opened the store with the manager on any particular morning and came 15 min.'s early as told, but, if that employee was not in manager's little clique, SHE WOULD SIT IN HER OFFICE IN THE BACK FOR 15 MIN.'S AND IGNORE THAT EMPLOYEE UNTIL STORE OPENED!! The manager at my store did this many times, not just once or twice! Even if I tried to make conversation with her and ask her various questions about the previous days' sales numbers; etc, she would be very vague with me and start doing something else to avoid filling me in on important information! She showed that her "management" style was all about creating a "middle school" clique, full of gossip, divisiveness, and rudeness to those again, not among her favorites!! One of her little "friends" at her store was a sarcastic, rude young woman whose sales numbers, interestingly enough, were (honestly) NOT that great! But the store manager would praise that "buddy" of hers frequently! Her "praise" of one of her favorites was so empty because this store manager could not be objective and fair-minded for anything! Going back to training a new employee, they do not emphasize the value of the patient/customer. They over-the-top emphasize the value of the SALE!! The sales manager in the store I worked in actually told me and I quote: "Right now you are still new so I do not expect you to do everything perfect. But 'soon', if you have to ask me questions about Accufit or other aspects of the sale process, then I WILL START TO IGNORE YOU, BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO KNOW EVERYTHING BY THEN!" Wow!!! I had worked at LensCrafters for less than three weeks when he said that!! That sounded like a THREAT. Pure intimidation is what that was! What a joke.

Pros

when I first started it was a very employee based company. Great discounts, great benefits. Regional managers were swift to help if we had questions and offer support

Cons

Since last year the environment has changed vastly. They no longer care about the employees and only want results. They have raised prices and insurances dont cover as well as they used to and they expect the managers to just force people to buy. If you dont make your monthly goals youre put on a PIP and the Regionals are constantly threatening you to make them. The work life balance does not exist. There is a group chat with your fellow store managers hosted by the Regional and if its your day off they still expect a response. I know it comes from the top down but the micromanaging has gotten so awful. Down to the minute you must be scheduled correctly. I have been here for 3 years and have never had a positive review even though our store has exceeded its goals. Doesnt matter to them, they expect more and more. They raise goals constantly and the only answer they have for making sure we hit those goals is no one leaves, even though they can get the same product from a competitor at a much lower cost.
