A great company...until things aren't good - Facilitator LifeLabs Learning Employee Review

Pros

The people are some of the best human beings. The thoughtfulness and intentionality when it comes to onboarding and helping employees feel like they can bring their whole selves to work is unlike any place I've ever worked. Almost everything they do aligns with their core values. If you're looking for a place with a great employee-first culture, then LifeLabs fits that perfectly.

Cons

LifeLabs doesn't seem to have a good sense of how the business will be performing beyond 1-2 months out. After going through a round of furloughs and layoffs they brought a handful of us back, then 2 weeks later announced that they would once again be laying off 20% of the org. So within a 60 day period of time it went from 'everythings great' to 'we have to let people go' to 'everythings great' to 'we have to let a lot more of you go'.

We are very sorry you’ve had this experience. You are absolutely right that it has been a rough time. The reality is that things did go from great to bad very quickly because of sudden changes in the economy. That said, we could have done a better job anticipating and responding to these macro shifts. We are already making changes in how we forecast, make hiring decisions, and distribute work so that we can be a more nimble and resilient organization and our team never has to go through this kind of whiplash again.

Pros

I've been at LifeLabs for several years, and I have loved the autonomy, commitment to values (not just words here), amazing people (smart and funny and kind - what more could you want?), and growth and learning opportunities I've found at LifeLabs. There's a lot of room for people to make stuff happen - and on the Sales team specifically, self-motivated, driven, and #AlwaysBeLearning-oriented folks are appreciated! I'm also excited about some of the recent investments we've made in bringing in tech that will help people do their jobs (Gong, outside sales training, etc.) While we have a lot of internal expertise, it's making it a lot easier for us to be effective when we can utilize best-in-class tech and learning!

Cons

Less of a con and just more two things to be aware of: 1) Change is a constant here. Even though LifeLabs has been around for more than 10 years, it operates as a startup in many ways. New systems and processes are coming often, so needing to do things the same way all the time doesn't really fly here. 2) Not every role at LifeLabs is designed to be a "lifetime role." The upside of a great culture is retention - people want to stay! The downside is that sometimes roles don't shift to continue responding to the evolving needs of individuals - LifeLabs is a place where you can be happy for years (like I have), but the two majority roles we have (sales and facilitation) don't see a ton of role evolution, so being willing to accept that is important to overall satisfaction.
