Pros

Positive Aspects: Fast-paced and dynamic environment Working in a restaurant keeps you on your toes – perfect for people who dislike routine and enjoy staying active. Teamwork and strong social bonds Many restaurant teams are tight-knit, and it’s common to build strong friendships with coworkers. Improved communication skills Dealing with customers daily teaches you patience, diplomacy, and how to stay calm under pressure. Opportunities for advancement It's possible to move up quickly in the restaurant industry – from server to supervisor or manager. Flexible work hours Shifts can often be adjusted around school, family, or a second job, making it ideal for students or part-timers.

Cons

Negative Aspects: High stress and time pressure During peak hours, the workload can be overwhelming, which may lead to mental fatigue and burnout. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts Most restaurant work happens when others are relaxing – nights, weekends, and public holidays are usually mandatory. Low base pay Wages are often minimal, and income depends heavily on tips, which can be unpredictable. Physically demanding Long hours on your feet, carrying heavy trays, and constant movement can be physically exhausting. Dealing with rude or difficult customers Not all guests are pleasant, and handling complaints or disrespectful behavior is part of the job.

Pros

Very good tips and nice atmosphere. Good work culture.

Cons

Don't respect personal time, ask you in on booked days off etc. Probably the case for all hospitality though
