Pros
Workers are very friendly and normally very willing to go out of their way to help you in any way possible. Excellent system in place for training engineers of industry standards and good engineering practices. Plenty of work to be done. Safety metrics are at all time best. Global collaboration between manufacturing sites is significantly improving with sharing of more ideas / problems-solutions.
Cons
Management is very reactive and fear based. Senior management levels require "yes-men" reports (there is very little if any two-way dialog). Competitive work environment leads to some stealing of ideas / work for individual recognition by management. Compensation to heavily based on managements recollection of your recent successes in generating profit. Significant amount of expansion work in progress (capital investment $ up) but employee headcount is down. Human resource limited for multiple years creates higher risk of significant reliability events and/or significant safety/process safety events. Operating lean has benefits and can be done successfully as long as you don't try to do to much. Senior management is running lean while trying major expansions, risk burn-out and missing of warning signs that would prevent major negative event.
