Pros
Such a great place to work! This a good way to get your foot in the door at a terrific company. You are able to slowly learn every line of business that Markel writes. After leaving the position I knew more about Markel than a lot of Underwriters did! Usually takes 12-18 months to get promoted but you’re able to find the team that matches your personality and skill set. One of the only places that actively wants their employees to move up and build a career. Everyone from support to Underwriters and management respects the work that you do and it’s a good feeling knowing that.
Cons
It is data entry so you need to leave your ego at the door. Even during slow times, there is usually some kind of work to be done. Must be detailed oriented and be able to work fast but limit mistakes.
