You are contributing to the intelligence apparatus of a private police contractor which was once complained to by rights watchdog groups over contracts with ICE and unlawful intrusions of privacy. This includes license plate recognition, arrest records, financials, etc. You are likely working on a legacy product with a lot of tech debt. Office space is kind of dreary and the lights are always off. Cubicles are kind of awkward space and the remoting process is very tedious. Onboarding was terrible. Possibility of being subject to a lot of menial labor without getting exposure to the meaty stuff (APIs, cloud). As the industry moves away from Java apps, that side of the experience is way more valuable.
