Pros
As a recruiter- no pro's. It sucks. Long hours, rude and uncaring clients, it's a grind. however, I was always taught that you have to grind in order to get to where you want to be, so I did.... This role does teach you the importance of communication, instills ALOT of patience too. You learn how to be creative in conversations, and become very self-critical on bettering your communication and empathy skills. CAA/PM positions- Pretty nice, very flexible work schedule. Less Micromanaging, much better work life balance. The management or sales aspect of these roles is much better than recruiting, because you are now dealing with B2B mostly and are no longer dealing with patients and nurses on a local level.
Cons
Recruiter: Long hours, On Call, Cold Calling, Inconsiderate patients and nurses, regional and local leadership are a coin flip- usually for the worst, it's alot of politics. There's a lack of training and education offices teach recruiters too about the job and more importantly getting to know and understand the business and patients... Recruiting is also difficult because they are stuck in the 1980's way of recruiting and do not use digital advertising how they should muchless want to budget. They are incredibly cheap... CAA/PM Positions: Politics- glass ceiling. Incentives lack- they look for any which way to not pay you more. Some Goals and KPI's that are tied to your bonus structure are impossible to achieve. Maxim is a 1980's style company. They refuse to change, and are very old school in the sense of the way they operate. From their lack of incentives and work-life balance for employees, to their software platforms they use, to the way they want you to recruit or seek out sales for a company.. They think that because they have been around for so long and their name is so well known, that those investments aren't needed...Even though everyone in the company, including the patients and nurses complain about this.. Overall it's very hard to grow within the company. Leadership is the biggest issue in my opinion. It lacks for various reasons- either people are bad managers, political based promotions, have no idea what theyre doing because there is little to no real training, or are just wrong people for the position- they do not invest in their employees growth, and therefore that reflects and creates a domino effect on all other levels, even locally... They are constantly cutting their budget, changing the salary/bonus structure, and try and keep people within 'titles' or roles that allow them to justify them not giving you a promotional raise (for example, I was a recruiter for 2 years, should have been promoted to an account manager position since I was doing those tasks as well as my jobs, but they kept saying it wasn't in the budget. until I finally gave them an ultimatum to move me to a new title and position.)... The growth is also stunted by the play of politics as I've said before too. It is very hard to get promoted, and Maxim is very well known for their many false promises... I stayed with the company for so long (even though I knew I hit my glass ceiling) because I finally had a great work life balance and not being micro managed, in the position I was in, and became very content with that. I was upset about my salary and bonus potential being reduced, but was at a point where it was enough for me given the other variables that were equally important to me.. and that was the only reason for being with them so long. .
