Pros

You get to work for a company that helps people. On a daily basis, your work can positively affect the lives of people who are struggling. You have the opportunity to really make a difference and do work that is meaningful.

Cons

They do not treat their employees very well. Pay is average at best. Job stress is high. Turnover is the highest in any company I've been with. They do not screen new employees well or explain the nature of the job to new hires. This results in very high turnover and what is often a very frustrating work environment. We regularly do not have the staff we need to meet our basic customer needs, let alone meet our monthly and quarterly performance goals.

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
