Pros

This company has a lot of potential, the SLT are vibrant and positive. Beer o'clock.

Cons

When starting the business I asked for instructions on how to complete basic daily administrative tasks essential for audit. I was told by my colleagues and my manager not to bother as "we never do it". Six months later, after figuring out, off my own back how to do it, Head Office comes down like a tonne of bricks on the office stating they have not been done and have failed audit. On top of this I worked with racist, homophobic and disgruntled colleagues who were obnoxious, lazy and didn't give a damn. My line manager refused to verify my work as he was too lazy. This meant that although I was exceeding my target by at least 25% each month, my figures were only showing that I was achieving between 10-50% of my target. This affected my bonus and most importantly my morale and was what led me to look elsewhere for a role. I am now earning double what I was paid at Maximus, and am given more autonomy and respect, as well as consistently achieving my targets and being recognised. They lost a good worker in me, and many of my highly qualified and hard-working colleagues also left due to the absolutely shocking treatment.

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
