Pros

They'll hire anyone on the spot, which is nice in a time when the economy sucks and the job market is full of fake job listings, or you can't be hired by other companies for some reason. The first paycheck came about 10 days into employment, so it was only extra-rough living for the first week.

Cons

The managers are quite aggressive and/or controlling, the training is inadequate, accessibility is quite poor for a place that prides itself on being equal-opportunity, the intranet has a lot of anti-union stuff on it, our pay is docked if we take an "unauthorized break" over 6 minutes, the gender neutral bathrooms are not very accessible (by the W1 entrance, making them the only bathrooms on site which requires workers to badge in/out to use), accommodations through the standard portal require a doctor's note affirming disability (seriously, we're Americans, and we're being paid the lowest you're allowed to pay us. Many can't go to the doctor)... I could go on, but I only have so many hours in a day. Seriously, don't work here unless you have no other choice, and don't stop the job search.

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
