Pros

Melaleuca is a medium sized family oriented business that operates out of South Eastern Idaho. Many of the employees are friendly well to do people that enjoy the outdoors and spending time with their families. Melaleuca also is enjoying growth outside of the US with Asia-Pac. There is a lot to do and rarely a dull moment. Employees are able to take advantage of many benefits such as on-site fitness center, cafeteria, clean work environment, health insurance etc. Members of the Web Team, Release Management, Compensation, DBAs, QA, Network, Systems, Marketing are awesome and contain some of the most talented and dedicated folks I have ever met and had the privilege of working with. Employees also enjoy a Christmas party, Summer Picnic. 401k is average company match is a little low and is only paid once a year instead of with every paycheck.

Cons

Melaleuca is not without its challenges. Many of which are of its own making. The IT department is a disaster. Strong words I know but nevertheless this is the sentiment felt by many. The challenges in the IT department do not come from the dedicated men and women within that are desperately trying to keep their heads above water as new business requirements rain down and staffing levels remain low. The challenges/problems come from the leadership or lack thereof. The negativity and lack of communication that exudes down from the CIOs office is abhorrent. Melaleuca started off about a year ago with yet another new CIO. The one prior had issues but at least there was an attempt at being a leader and bringing positive change to the department. The current CIO has yet to ever give any kind of direction, public recognition of staff members, or contribute anything positive to the department. Most of the time this person sits in his office browsing the web and lamenting how nobody around here knows what they are doing except for himself. The CIO has a his way or the highway mentality and expects the department to follow along to his beat with no actual direction to what that beat should be. Blind obedience is demanded but no communication of what is expected is conveyed.

Pros

- side benefits are okay - it is a median sort of job - I personally have some freedom do to personal professional development on the clock when there is no immediate need for my work (happens very little) - People half listen once they know you have been at Melaleuca after about 5 years

Cons

- No management that knows what they are doing - Not very customer-focused - Don't seek to fulfill their strategic imperatives or strategies or mission - Very hard for people to listen to you because you're new - They don't have a lot of integrity - Very slow to solve problems - Don't worry about making improvements in processes or tools we use - Slow AI usage and no proficiency in AI usage, strategies or implementation - Managers micromanage because Melaleuca is "unique" - Most of the positive things they tout all the time serves only the company's image, not the employees - Don't worry about giving raises in a timely manner - Not goal-oriented employer And I could probably keep going, but will stop here.
