Pros
- Opportunity to contribute to human benefit - Lots of areas in the company need improvement - personal opportunities abound if you want to make a difference - Management willing to try solutions without too many bureaucratic bottlenecks - Profitable company with decent margins - reasonably well funded - Business area should see a lot of growth in the near future
Cons
- Very badly run basic operations for a company of its size and profitability; HR, Finance, IT, Marketing, Support would shame even a mom-and-pop operation. These basics are immense barriers to implementing real change - Morale issues with employees; many have accepted the status quo and are jaded enough to stubbornly resist change - Not a place for the best and the brightest or the truly motivated; unless you get lucky with a sugar daddy who takes care of the rough edges. Many employees do not even have basic knowledge in their subject areas, so you can forget about true innovation or being in the cutting edge. These includes areas like scientific research, product management, marketing, IT. - Environment where mediocrity is perfectly acceptable, excuses are rampant and sycophancy is encouraged
