Pros

Was a great entry-level job because learned in-depth about production, gemstones, communicating w/ overseas manufacturers, design for brand awareness, several different lines to design for to keep it interesting, very much a self-motivated environment. Many of the staff have been there for many years.

Cons

Poor pay to start (with degree and a few years of relevant experience), no benefits, bad work-life balance. There were anger management issues with the owner, felt like walking on eggshells. The building is dirty and not well-cared for, poor ventilation, not so many windows. The bathrooms were quite gross. With 3-5 people working with a designer/on a design, all the different handlers of jewellery, it became confusing where things went. While many of the staff had been there for many years, there is a lot of turnover.

Pros

-this company is involved with all aspects of the jewellery industry from designing to manufacturing to supplying to sales and insurance. -company offers advancement -generally a self-directed work environment, which an be great if you're ambitious, a fast learner and great with time management -many coworkers are very nice and helpful (but not all)

Cons

-building/work environment is high security making it difficult to come and go for breaks. There is poor ventilation and no windows which is unhealthy and a little depressing. -there is a huge amount of product with many people from different departments handling it--it can be very disorganized and difficult to find a specific piece under pressure. -very little training--it's a sink or swim environment that's very self directed -management is in a word, "cheap". They discontinued Benefits (due to supposed "abuse" of Benefits by employees) and while many of the employees have been working there for years, there is little job security -the products involved really vary in quality -it's this company's policy NOT to provide an especially positive reference for having worked there: they will just say that you were employed there and objectively state your duties -this company could take more pride in their product quality and provide better Customer Service -management will merge/add job responsibilities to a full plate on a whim with no proper evaluation
