Pros

Free snacks and beverages; free parking.

Cons

This was not a pleasant experience for me during my short tenure at this firm. I expected and was promised a much better environment, but the staff (with the exception of two people) were extremely unfriendly and at times, bullying. I was literally mocked by two of the staff members. The manager is a wonderful person, but works off site in Florida, so there is no accountability. These same staff members spent most of the day loudly talking or listening to music during work hours. The office is located in a ghetto-adjacent area of Torrance, so walking to one's car in the dark was anxiety-inducing. The office and surrounding area smelled like rotten eggs, due to a toxic waste spill in the nearby Dominguez Channel. There is an attorney who is incredibly persnickety and highly difficult to work for that will literally run to the managing partner to disparage you if you don't finish their assignments before anyone else's. Most of the staff seem to hate their jobs and complain regularly about how overburdened they are with work. The firm's HQ is in South Carolina and the LA office seems to be the forgotten stepchild when it comes to making changes that would be helpful to the staff. Overall, I would say that the environment in the LA office is miserable. I was relieved when the job ended and have since found a much better fit. There are much better "big law" firms out there than this place.

Pros

Nice corporate attorneys; stay away from the litigation, healthcare & tax section teams

Cons

Controlling MP, inexperienced, insecure and never there office manager & inexperienced, micromanaging office coordinator, who only cares about her MP boss and team and only job is approving timesheets, will never go against rainmaker staff, but will be strict with the rest of the staff; Tax team Partner is the rain maker, therefore his assistant enjoys full favoritism, “on call” in office work schedule, extra “remote” time and firm polices do not apply to her regarding PTO, sick time or assistant pool duties. She will end up with excessive roll over PTO at the wnd if the year. Both the MP & the rainmaker assistants constantly complain about their bosses to other assistants in the firm but stay because they enjoy blatant favoritism. Promotions are given only to those who work for the MP or rainmaker, not merit. If you are a top performer, prepare to be burned out, and excluded, and don’t dare speak up because silence & control are what is rewarded in this firm.
