Pros

Great brand and mission, good benefits and decent compensation.

Cons

Huge lack of internal transparency and trust. Company-wide decisions are made by people with irrelevant and often counterproductive expertise. Very little focus on employee experience outside of the Newsroom. Very set in ways that have been "the way" for decades - nearly impossible to make even the simplest progress in changing processes for the better (and ridiculous internal politics based on tenure and nepotism create a ton of additional obstacles). From my experience, it's not the right place for anyone who's driven by innovation, collaboration, or modern ways of working. And on a side note, email is the preferred communication method which is excruciating.

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
