Pros

There have been some good people/artists who have worked for Nice Shoes. Most of them are now gone.

Cons

Run by two old cis hetero white men - and it shows. The eldest says things like "I don't see colour" and his son bullies and intimidates people into getting what he wants. This is no place for a woman or minority to work for several reasons: - As others have said, white men are continuously promoted ahead of others. - Women are spoken down to regularly and bullied by leadership. - Women are taken off of jobs at the request of clients who "would rather work with a guy" - When issues were reported, they were swept under the rug as there is no real HR department. They use an outsourced company who acts as a HR rep, but reports everything to leadership who will then 'deal with it internally' (namely by calling their employees and gaslighting them) - The company has no interest in changing the industry for the better and refused to implement a diversity initiative when it was presented to them. - When a session was held to discuss Black Lives Matter and negative experiences were disclosed by BIPOC employees, leadership said they didn't believe them, responding "Well, I can't believe that anyone that works here would say that" - in an all staff meeting. They are truly toxic. If you're wise, you'll stay away from this place.

Pros

A super warm and collaborative environment where creativity and talent is cultivated. Coworkers genuinely care for each other and lift each other up instead of trying to tear each other down. Management / Owner makes an effort to hear and listen to the needs of their employees and genuinely cares for each employee's well being. You are encouraged to partake in industry events and to share ideas on how to engage Nice Shoes within the industry I have worked at other post houses in NYC and the above was not always the case. The grass is definitely greener on the Nice Shoes side of the fence!

Cons

There can be long hours but that is on par with all post houses I have worked in and is part of the industry. If you don't like engaging with other people in the industry, this might not be the place for you. There is an expectation that all employees in all departments are out and about at industry events meeting with other industry thought leaders. Depending on the position, a good amount of travel could be required as we have a multitude of locations outside of NYC. This could also be looked at as a pro depending on your desire to travel and it also depends on the position. Many positions require no travel.
