I’m very sorry I took this job. I have a very successful career to date and I wish I did more research before I start, because all the reviews about how awful state of this company are true. This is what I learned almost immediately after I started.
- I was the 4th person in my role in less than 2 years.
- I lasted almost 6 months, which is longer than the last 4 people
- There was over 50% turnover in marketing while I was there
- The entire product marketing team left or was fired while I was there
The role seems great at first—The CEO seems cool, people are nice. He’ll tell you that all the other people in your role were horrible, on drugs or just plain incompetent. He says you are GREAT! His best hire yet! You want to believe him. DON’T.
As other reviews mention, the CEO IS A MICRO-MANAGER. The company does not have a board of directors, so the CEO has absolute power. He insists on directing marketing decisions, no matter how small. He has no prior marketing experience, but has absolute veto power over all marketing tactics, creative and messaging. He does not base his decisions on data, which can be very frustrating.
A marketing plan does not exist. However, the CEO is not interested in a real plan—he thinks he knows everything better than anyone else. He wants to run the same old tired campaigns that deliver no results. He knows nothing about marketing, but insists on making all the decisions. He creates KPIs for and tells everyone exactly what to do. However, the KPIs are not based on any modern marketing tactics, baseline metrics, or experience. He’ll expect positive reporting on all of the KPIs. I'm smart, figure it out and start delivering results.
However, he doesn’t believe the results (even though I used a CRM, marketing analytics tools + the data is accurate). He starts blaming me for not succeeding. I heard this story about all the people before me and I’m sure people will hear it about me too.
At the end he actually told me I had no experience during something I’ve been doing successfully for over a decade with many, many references. It's laughable.
This place is truly horrible. A total joke. Do not work here. Believe all the reviews. They are absolutely accurate. Ask your network. I’ve run into recruiters and other marketers who know this company’s reputation. I wish I did a better job of vetting this company before I joined.
