Total overhype, rose-tinting, and gaslighting. Masters at tooting their own horn. Very cult-like in the wider sense and everyone outwardly pretends everything’s amazing, but in private conversations it’s clear that everyone actually thinks it’s just an extremely disorganised company, with management who simply does not care about real results. Customer-friendly, sure, (this saves them) but the only employees who genuinely enjoy working here are the people who don’t care about having sound organisational processes and are OK with BS-ing their way through problems. I don’t know how they’re doing it, but definitely a lot of data-forgery going on to make the problems seem like less than what they are. Some back-end teams do great work, but this is not the majority and absolutely everything is Kraken-Tech dependent. Octopus Energy is basically just a customer service centre for Kraken Tech, and the data-driven sides of the business can barely move a finger without Kraken Tech’s input. In terms of salary - forget having any sort of increase from your starting base. I’ve had two role advancements with practically zero salary increase and a very sad bonus contribution. Minted but cheap company, they’d rather throw compensation at customers for shortfalls than actually sort out their processes and pay their employees properly.
