Pros

Flexible hours, interesting cases, manageable workload

Cons

The other one-star review on here was consistent with my experience. Be prepared to get badgered daily (and sometimes hourly) every time you accept an assignment. Investigators are forced to meet best-case-scenario quotas at all times and treated in utterly degrading fashion if they cannot meet unrealistic expectations. The boss clearly gets paid based on the # of legal memos you can generate for him — he doesn’t seem to care what’s in them — know you will be under pressure at all times. More energy will be expended dealing with the boss than doing the job. Exhausting and not very professional.

Pros

I worked for Chris for about 2 years and really enjoyed the work. If you've been a reporter (who he mainly hires) this is a chance to get the high of breaking a big story without the newsroom. I found the cases themselves interesting and actually learned a lot about how different companies operate based on all my interviews.

Cons

Not everyone will have the skillset to get these interviews. Occasionally, you'll get a bad case that seems impossible to crack. He puts the pressure on to deliver memos and sometimes, no amount of effort can get the needed results. Although this is a part time job, you will get calls and should expect to be available throughout most of the day.

Pros

Better hourly pay than journalism jobs Remote work

Cons

Many calls involve hostile or inappropriate behavior from contacts some cases are extremely difficult to make progress on and you will be blamed for this Minimal guidance or support from management. Investigators are expected to handle all research, report analysis, and case strategy independently. Cases are often “offloaded” from other investigators after little progress to others without any context from management, and investigators may be criticized for outcomes outside their control. Some investigators are not transparent with interviewees that the information they’re collecting is for a lawsuit. This is frustrating because these investigators have more success getting interviews because they are not transparent. Chris does not seem to notice this and will compare your output (as an ethical and transparent investigator) to theirs. Compensation ($50–$75/hr) does not reflect the workload or difficulty. You’re basically on call, Chris has no real research or investigative skill other than to keep calling people so it’s all on you to research and interview and come up with creative ways to find new witnesses. No reimbursement for phone services (you must use your own cell phone
