Pros

Remote only. Used to be a good place.

Cons

Things are really bad! Leadership is not in tune with what the employees are doing. There is a disconnect between leadership and employees who do the real work. Things have become really bad in the past six months. Leadership makes fake promises of improving things, but in the end, it only makes things worse for the people who do the work. A certain leader went on a listening tour and spoke for 23 minutes out of the 25 minutes allotted for listening to an employee. So you can imagine how much the leadership cares about its employees. One manager's modus operandi is to fire people on her team every few months. Good luck if you are on her team. Workload has increased, or in some cases, tripled, and pay has in fact decreased. Another leader claims that a certain task can be completed in 2 hours, whereas in reality it can take an entire week. Of course, that leader has never done any work at the ground level. Work gets dumped on you all the time!!

Pros

Has the best customers in PE. Great place to work; plenty of opportunities for someone who is willing to work hard and be flexible.

Cons

No unique “cons” here — like any company, there are ups and downs, but we try to be as employee friendly as possible.

Pros

Some of the best, most passionate people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The majority of ICs and mid/senior management truly understand the work and aren't afraid to dig in. Above average comp and benefits.

Cons

Direction often feels unclear. Teams are occasionally assigned 10,000-foot-view OKRs without clearly defined success metrics, and are expected to scope and build solutions that are sometimes completed on the engineering side, only for the underlying problem to be deprioritized before the work reaches customers. "Hackathon" projects are at times pushed into production quickly, introducing friction and contributing to technical debt. The organization is leaning heavily into speed and AI adoption as a way to move forward and using metrics like PR count and token spend to gauge performance. At the same time, the company has seen a number of highly impactful employees leave or be laid off, which can make continuity and execution more difficult.

We want Ontra to be a place people are proud to be part of, and hearing that the people and benefits here stand out means a lot to us. We also take it seriously when other parts of the employee experience start to feel different. Ontra is always improving how we operate, prioritize work, and support teams through change. We recognize the importance of clear goals and well-defined measures of success, especially as we move quickly and continue incorporating AI more deeply into our workflows. We also recognize the impact that organizational change can have on morale, particularly when priorities and goals are evolving. Part of how we work through that is a genuine commitment to communicate openly, even when things are moving fast. We encourage you to speak with your People Business Partner so we can keep growing in the right direction.
