Great place to grow as a product marketer! - Product Marketing Associate OpenVPN Technologies Employee Review

OpenVPN's a great place to work. You get to work in a really competitive and interesting category, and due to the nature of the company you have a lot of freedom and ownership over the work you do. The CEO is very committed to the growth and success of the company and places a lot of trust in his teams to deliver. There is a lot of clarity on goals and objectives, and investment is available for new channels, tactics, and projects if it's anticipated to move the needle. There's also a lot of collaboration and everyone "rows in the same direction", which is great to know that everyone is coming from the same goals. Culturally, there is a strong focus on testing and iteration. Less "sit in an office and brainstorm for 6 months" and more "hey we think this might work, let's test and see what happens". Very growth oriented. Outside of that -- great pay and benefits, flexible PTO, and fully distributed. What's not to like?

Despite being a 20-year old company it operates culturally like an early-stage company which isn't always a good fit for everyone. Lots of urgency, expectation of coming to the table with ideas, and lots of visibility (i.e. no flying under the radar). If you enjoy and are energized by that sort of environment then it's a great place to work.

I began my work with OpenVPN as a contractor three years ago and have been able to grow my career to new heights, gaining new skills thanks to the fluid and open environment at the company. I love that I can be creative and take charge of new strategies without being micro-managed. I also appreciate the flexibility which allows me to work remotely when needed. The team is also very collaborative. You won't find a better CEO to work with; he is extremely generous and cares about his employees deeply. - great compensation - great benefits package - remote flexibility

I'm not sure that these are cons, however people considering OpenVPN should be aware that you need to be a self-driver. The CEO expects you to take initiative and come up with ideas/strategies that take your execution. This is not a typical corporate job where you walk into a cookie cutter position with everything handed to you. This means there's no limit to your growth in the company. You can start as a contractor and quickly climb the ranks here.
