Senior managers in a lot of non trading teams are ex traders. Should be noted that ex traders aren’t necessarily the best for management, particularly in non trading areas. Though solutions can be resolved quickly, there’s often difficulties in looking at the long term from management, leading to solutions constantly being required due to short term fixes. Management can often just ask you how you’re going to fix issues you raise in 1 on 1s. When you’re asked a question in a 1 on 1, the answer isn’t always to expect the junior colleague to come up with a solution. I understand it’s a great exercise, but junior colleagues straight out of college can’t develop if they’re always the one having to come up with solutions. Management is paid very handsomely and a bit more guidance can only be a good thing.
