Pros
Partners are experienced consultants with excellent insight and a commitment to delivering exceptional quality to customers. The organizational values are good, and from a customer perspective, are lived. Given that it is a small organization, there are opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and move up within the company. Salary portion of compensation is good if you're more senior.
Cons
Partners have no concept of human resources management. They serve their clients exceptionally, but employees are treated like incompetents (most of the staff are junior, and management refuses to spend time training because "We have no time for that", and they also see no benefit to an onboarding program; of course they're going to have a challenging time meeting expectations). On that note, expectations are not clearly expressed, and regularly change without notice. A commitment to work/life balance is lip service, but certainly not embraced by the organization. Anyone not running up significant (unpaid - this is consulting) overtime is derided as not a hard worker. Turnover was about 80% in the time I was there and almost no one had been there for over a year, which should indicate something of how staff are treated. Salary portion of compensation is similar to other larger firms for more junior positions, however the full compensation package (benefits, professional development, no pension, etc.) is far below those firms. A smaller full compensation package is expected for smaller firms, but perhaps the salary could compensate that.
