Cons
huge turnover abusive behavior lack of compassion Ovation used to be amazing to work for. There was a team atmosphere where all levels of staff were treated with respect and compassion. Upper management was supportive and empathetic. We worked together, accomplished goals, and were building something great from the ground up. In the past couple of years, the company has struggled to meet KPI's. While not uncommon for startups, the way budget shortfalls have been addressed has been brutal. Over 2/3 of staff have quit or been part of multiple rounds of layoffs. The main office in Cambridge was closed without notifying everyone. The once transparent and supportive management group has become siloed and apathetic. Systemic lack of communication between departments has led to mismatched priorities. Staff are given conflicting directives that result in delays, confusion and frustration for customers. Lack of comprehensive long-term planning with accurate metrics, budget, and honest risk evaluation has led to huge inefficiencies, repeated failures, and a stressful and unstable work environment. All focus has gone to generating income while employee engagement, customer service, and operating with honesty and integrity have been treated as luxuries that cannot be afforded. Toxic behaviors by one or two individuals are ignored despite multiple reports to management and HR. This includes employees being berated to their faces or behind their backs, people being uninvited from meetings and crucial information being withheld. Responses to reports of abuse lead only to excuses made on behalf of the abusers and victim-shaming. Negative behaviors are so pervasive that they have become normalized and expected.
