Pros
Flexible schedule, great coworkers, nice building
Cons
Lack of communication between management and coworkers
Pros
There is a strong family -like environment among the lab staff. There are a lot of very talented people to learn from, and you will learn quickly if you are willing to interact with the team and ask questions. There is great flexibility. You can basically choose your schedule as long as you work your 40 hours which is nice. This is not the same for all departments and some people do get more flexibility than others.
Cons
As of June 2022: I was not at all offered a competitive compensation packaged and to me this seemed to be a common theme. They seem to offer a base salary significantly that is lower than market value according to the bureau of labor statistics. There was no formalized pay structure which caused discrepancies among employees working the same types of roles. They did not give raises for increased duties, and it seems to be the case when people are “promoted” and when others quit and duties are redistributed to remaining staff. On top of that they sometimes gave bonuses, salary increases to some employees and tell them not to tell others. Since everyone is like a family in the lab, employees talked and shared information. Employees have caught management lying about how others are compensated in order to placate staff and save money. They do very little to recognize or show appreciation for hard work and effort by employees. They even reduced the amount of events like happy hours, HSA contributions, snacks, and sick time that was given during covid. They offered “summer hours” which is them saying that the office is closed on Friday after a certain time but they require you to work your 40 hours on other days. They are not at all transparent and seem to frequently lie to employees. They often make meaningless comments about where they see you in the company and do not follow through. There is little to no room for actual meaningful growth at this company. They cut pay for several months during the pandemic, took out PPP loans and did not give raises until later in the following year even though at least two full time employees quit during that time. I personally felt that it was opportunistic of them to take money from their employees with such little regard. There seemed to be a ton of favoritism and discrimination. As a woman I did not feel fairly treated relative to my male counterparts. I felt that if a woman raised a concern they are not taken seriously and can be retaliated against. I would not recommend this company to women or people of color. Management seems to also take feedback personally and retaliate against employees who they do not agree with. The issues outline above have led to SIGNIFICANT turnover over the past year. Many seemed to be unhappy with management’s inconsistency, lack of structure, lack of transparency, favoritism, and poor compensation package.
