It doesn’t matter how hard you work. The only thing that matters is working on the right projects/programs and having the right leadership back you up. I started an initiative and worked on it for about a year (on top of a heavy workload) and someone else got the opportunity to work on the larger initiative. Being continuously overlooked was so demotivating. Unfortunately not all employees are treated the same. Some are favoured (partially because they work on the “important programs/projects) and some are basically shunned. My supervisor never supported me, and was not approachable. I completed a high volume of work with no help, guidance, or constructive feedback. I would get compliments on my work by my peers, but my supervisor would not say anything or acknowledge my contributions. My supervisor had no plan or vision for the department and didn’t deal with toxic behaviour either.
