Pros
None whatsoever. Dishonest arrogance at its best!
Cons
It is exceedingly rare, particularly after more than two decades of professional experience, to encounter a hiring process so misaligned with even the most fundamental standards of organizational discipline and professional courtesy.
Following what was framed as a highly favorable interview, I was informed—without ambiguity—that I was a strong candidate for a role with multiple vacancies. I was then tasked with completing a substantial reading assignment—an entire book—with the explicit assurance that doing so would directly precipitate a brief, final interview.
I complied fully, allocating several hours of focused time to meet this expectation, and followed up precisely as instructed. What followed was not delay, but silence: no acknowledgment, no update, and no closure, despite multiple attempts to reestablish contact.
Shortly thereafter, I observed the position being reposted publicly.
At that juncture, the implications become difficult to reconcile charitably. Either the initial representations were made with a concerning degree of casualness, or candidate time and effort are treated as largely inconsequential variables within the process. Neither interpretation reflects a well-regulated or conscientious organization.
To require a nontrivial, uncompensated investment of time under the implied premise of continued consideration—only to disengage without even minimal professional courtesy—signals a broader deficit in procedural integrity and communicative accountability.
Prospective candidates would be well advised to consider carefully whether they wish to participate in a process that, at least in this instance, demonstrated so little regard for transparency, follow-through, or the equitable treatment of their time and effort.
