Pros

For basically an adjunct-like position this was really good. I got health benefits, a decent salary, and a reasonable teaching schedule. I got paid for the amount of teaching I did and I negotiated that at the beginning of the school year in my contract. I mostly taught beginning level classes, which was fine because they are easy to prepare and take up more credits (= more money). I left only because State College is in the middle of nowhere and my girlfriend was in another state.

Cons

State College is isolated and you have to want to be in this area. Also it is not a full time position. It has to be renewed every year or two.

Pros

My supervisor was fantastic: provided good feedback, flexibility in work schedule, opportunities for professional growth.

Cons

Usually 1-2 year contract, determined by grant funding and availability Workplace experience is more dependent on the individual researcher/research lab you end up working for than the university as a whole
