Some teams suffer from toxic leadership—I was stuck in one and left after a year. On my team, the PI belittled others’ efforts, dismissed opinions and ideas, and led with suspicion and distrust, creating an environment of extreme pressure and blame. This stifled collaboration, discouraged innovation, and resulted in poor project outcomes. When he learned I was exploring other opportunities, he began denying me work as a form of retribution.
