Safe Environment but Not a Safe Space for Feedback or Ideation - Graphic Designer I Pilot Flying J Employee Review

Pros

Buildings and facilities are maintained well and are safe. Free coffee and fountain drinks. Most coworkers are nice and mean well, but the organization is similar to a caste system and lower-level team members are excluded from voicing their ideas.

Cons

No consistency in directives, however, it is clear that leadership cares more about optics. Less benefits every year, but it costs more. A lot of corporate talk, but very little action (a.k.a. do as I say, not as I do). Promotions are based around who you know, not merit. Leadership and managers are exclusive, frequently go off-site while the rest of the workforce is demanded to work in-office. Be wary of high turnover rates, backstabbing, and doublespeak. Best hold your tongue or retaliation will occur.

Pros

I really can't think of any pros. This started as a great place to work. Then something changed around December. All management was changed and new GM came in promising updating the store, equipment, etc. When shown proof of the dirt in the showers, lounge, kitchen/deli area he became defensive.

Cons

The pay is below average for the area. Repairs to equipment was never done. Deep clean of food areas never happened. Cross contamination of potential allergens . (Gluten, fish, nuts) No food notices of allergens. Keeping foods past their expired time. Electrical room and boiler in the same area. Employees being instructed to work on equipment that requires a license. (i.e. draining the freon) Supervisors damaged out product and walking out the back door with them. Management bring their personal problems to work and arguing with someone on the phone. Inappropriate conduct with management and employees. The manager fires you because you were sick in the E.R. They fight you on unemployment. (Really, you should be better than this)
