Pros
If you love the library and are becoming a Librarian, this place is a great start to your career. You'll get real world experience. You'll learn about all the available resources available to the public and staff. You can participate in public service programs such as food programs, literacy programs and more.
Cons
Administration can be disconnected with what's happening on the front lines of public libraries. Administration gives greater weight to public complaints before reviewing both sides of the situation. For all the things staff has to do, pay is poor. Depending on what branch you work in, you may not have personal space and have to share office equipment like a computer. Because this is a county job, employees are subject to furloughs. Pay raises never happen unless it's a county-wide raise or a promotion in a new position. There's no consistency in services and skillsets throughout the libraries.
