Pros
Pratt & Whitney hires the best people in the industry. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity and variety of jobs available. The employee scholar program is outstanding.
Cons
They don't trust employees to make decisions. Employees are not empowered at all and risk taking is avoided at any and all costs. Executives micromanage every aspect of the company and are functioning about 2 grade levels below where they should be. UTC - the parent corp - is very conservative, which restricts the types of projects that get approved (for example, P&W was not allowed to offer an engine for the B787). Too often "performance" is measured by how many hours you work, not how smart you work. People are rewarded for taking heroic measures to solve problems, rather than preventing them. P&W gives lip service to work-life balance and flexible work arrangements, but many supervisors will not approve them. Many areas of the company are still dominated by an old-boy mentality. Benefits (medical, dental, etc.) erode each year. You pay more and more for less coverage than ever before!
