Preply is a mess! First of all, it takes some teachers months to get their first student. And you might have to start at a very low price to get any students. And then, EVERY SINGLE TRIAL YOU TEACH is for NO MONEY! That's true. However, the student pays and expects a paid lesson, while Preply keeps the money for themselves. Not only that, but they punish teachers who cancel or reschedule this unpaid work by lowering their position in the search engine and denying them their so-called "Super Tutor" badge. I had weeks where I did up to 10 hours of free work. Although you are not an "employee" and are actually paying them for their services, they do almost nothing. Anytime I asked support to do things, they refused. So then, why pay them? Sometimes, I could not contact them at all and had to connect from a student account to get any response. If you give support 1 star, they can retaliate and even get you fired. When Preply fires people, they provide no reason, give no chance to appeal, and treat you like dirt. Their "decision is final" even though they give NO evidence as to WHY you are being fired, or just make it up out of thin air. The company is unethical. I asked them to cancel the subscription of an unemployed student. They refused, and the student was charged another month when classes started to pile up. And Preply keeps the money. If a student disappears, that is their money. If students do not use all the classes in the month, they keep that money, too. And, of course, all the money for "trials" is THEIR money! The platform is horrible, and the audio and video were so unstable that I had to use another video conferencing service on top of theirs. It really made it annoying, but luckily, students adapted. When I was fired, with 2400 classes and 61 all 5-star reviews, they did not tell any of my students, and when the students asked for refunds, they refused or said "they would get back to them." This company wants money and has no respect for anybody. Avoid it at all costs!
