Pros

I want to give this review for those who want an in depth look on what ProAssurance is like on the IST team as a new remote employee (Franklin, TN office). I've broken it down into segments so you can cherry pick info at your leisure. Pros: Department: ProAssurance has many departments with multiple different specialties, I specifically work within the IST team which deals with podiatry, chiropractic, and dental. I have been working here for about 6 months thus far and have to say there are a lot of positive compared to my experiences with other companies. You will learn a lot about Malpractice insurance if you don't know a lot already. Management & underwriting team: The management team is fantastic and understanding, and they are willing to help you with most questions and or concerns. Also my manager meets with me often to see how things are going and see if I need any help (don't know if other managers do this). The underwriting team has become comfortable with virtual meetings and social gatherings to build relationships while working remote. This has helped me feel like I am part of a team and not just working alone at home. The underwriters and associate underwriters are always there to answer questions when they arise. Workflow: The workflow side of things can get tedious but you will be kept busy! As an AU you will generally be processing renewal offers, working on new business submission, and make policy changes on the fly. This job can be very gratifying for those who are very task oriented and stay on top of there workloads. Work life balance: Work life balance has been a huge positive for me. Since I work remote I have the ability to commute 10 feet to my office, make breakfast and sit down at my desk, make a nice lunch, and be home when my wife comes back from her job. When things are getting a little hectic or mind numbing I can get up and take a brake and do something around the house for a few minutes to regain some mental energy. Don't overlook work life balance because it can make or break a job for some people. Future growth opportunities: I know this one can be big for new employees. The company offers promotions from within and your manager will be able to work with you to set up a success plan to achieve the positions you want to achieve over time. There are internal positions being posted that you can apply to if you want to change departments or go up in positions. As long as there is a position open you can work your way into it or recommend a friend or colleague.

Cons

Salary: Compensation is a consideration for those looking to join this company. I am not primarily happy with the compensation for the AU role, but it is considered an entry level role so I do understand. The pay can vary based on your experience in underwriting and years in the industry.

Pros

They have decent pay, if you're willing to fight for it and good PTO.

Cons

It's a fight to get good pay if you're a long-time employee. It's easier as a new hire to start off with good pay than it is for existing employees to be compensated for their value & worth to the company. Too many layers of management and unsupportive to the lower level employees. Too many required meetings that could have been an email. With many employees working remote we have several touch base meetings each week/month. I believe this is just so we can get together. But many of these meetings really don't need to happen and could easily just be an email or wrapped up in 15-20 minutes, instead of filled with inconsequential items just to fill the hour. This is especially frustrating when meetings are scheduled during the lunchtime portion of the day.
