Pros
Campus is nice. It is pretty to go for walks when you can. SOME leaders really value their employees and push them to follow their dreams and are proud when they achieve new opportunities. The pay is the worst I have ever been paid in my career. BUT the sick and vacation time is great--as long as you have a supervisor that is cool with you using any of it.
Cons
1. Reorganizations. In 2 years, there have been 3 reorganizations. That's too many. That doesn't even let you get the first one running before you are doing it again. So everyone is on edge and worried all the time. 2. Politics, sabotage, and unnecessary drama. Yes, your colleagues AND supervisors will sabotage each other. CYA (cover your a**) is the most important thing you need to know how to do to be successful here. It WILL be necessary. 3. If you don't drink the coolaid, you will not fit in. Purdue University's president and leadership are making horrible choices--racist choices, sexist choices, bigoted plans for the university. If you question that, you will be shunned. If you stand up for others, shunned. If you don't drink the coolaid, and keep your mind about you, you will stick out like a sore thumb. 4. Do your job and go home Everyone does their jobs and goes home. It is a pro and a con. That means YOU can do that same. However, it also means there is not a lot of socializing with colleagues and you never really feel truly connected to the career here.
