Purdue University

Is this your company?

Truly awful. They treat their faculty terribly there. - Assistant Professor of Physics Purdue University Employee Review

Pros

There is no good reason to work specifically at PUC. It does have some of the general benefits that all professorships have: flexible schedule, limited supervision, teaching is a rewarding career choice, etc.

Cons

(1) You will get little to no start up funds. (2) Promotion and tenure is a total crap-shoot. They change the rules year to year. Some people that deserve to get fired get promoted early, people that deserve to get promoted get messed with. (3) Annual raises are small, 0 - 2%. Starting salary is well below that of other similar universities. (4) No respect from administration, they regularly renege on their word concerning personal funds, benefits, FTE releases, etc. (5) Hard work is not respected at PUC, only politicking is. Working there will be the worst experience of your life. Almost all of the faculty are demoralized and disgruntled--and with good reason. It makes for an extremely negative working environment. Instead of taking their frustrations out on each other (which they do), the faculty should unionize and go on strike.
