Cons
We were all massively underpaid for our experience, with no extra benefits (other than the occasional 'free drink', if our boss felt like it), or clear career path. The main owner and boss, displayed textbook psychotic symptoms, such as frequently exploding at and firing his employees, making bad, rash decisions that cost the company huge amounts of money, possessed a large ego, and showed narcissistic tendencies. The owner treated the company like his own personal playground, and pretty much did anything he wanted to (much to the detriment of everyone and everything else). Company 'meetings' consisted of him telling everyone that nobody would get fired, yet nearly every other week, someone would be fired (or made 'redundant'), usually with no warning. Really felt sorry for people who had huge responsibilities outside of work, because they weren't sure if they would be be able to continue committing to them as we were all unsure of whether we'd be employed the next day, let alone the next week. Always pretended to run a tight ship with little money, yet money was lavishly spent on unnecessary items such as a car racing game booth (which wasn't used much in the end for its intended purpose of 'entertaining clients'). Senior management was cold and/or backstabbing. Colleagues were really nice, just felt sorry we were all in the same rotten boat. Those who survived the longest tended to know how to suck up to the boss, but were probably the most mediocre skills-wise in the company. Politics was the main game (whilst politics is an issue in any company, this agency beats them all!). However, in the end, almost none of our generation survived. If you don't believe me about the high staff turnover, my ex-colleague saw a photo online of the staff less than 1 1/2 years later, at an e-learning convention. When we joined, there were 30 members of staff. The photo showed 15 members of staff, all brand new. The office also massively downsized. It is a huge shame that this company did not succeed to become any bigger. We had incredible clients. After that, the accounts were lost due to lewd behaviour by new business staff towards the clients. A few years on, I'm glad I was essentially 'fired' (for apparently 'not having the right skills', despite having work that the clients loved), as I am in a much better place, financially and mentally. Had terrible low self-esteem after this job, and I know there were many others like me. None of my other peers have had such a horrible, unprofessional experience, and were shocked when I told them about what we had been through. Miserable, horrible place to work at. Avoid this company like the plague!
