Pros

RFA is a decent place for a first engineering job. It can provide exposure to some major companies, and provide a great learning experience for the engineering process. You can put in extra time if there is work in order to bank hours for time off or extra pay. Some people who work on-site with customers are able to get hired on full time by the customer, but that usually takes many years. Overall, the health benefits and 401k match are fine. This year they rolled out a few new benefit options that are nice. RFA is growing, as many of the customers are currently doing well.

Cons

Once you get your initial burst of experience, you realize how much better it could be somewhere else. Working on-site for a customer, you miss out on many benefits that the employees have. If the customer has a vacation day when RFA does not, you need to either work extra time to make up for it, go unpaid for that day, or use what limited PTO you have. And the PTO is severely lacking, as you have to make due with one week per year until a few years in. There is the option to work extra time to use as PTO later, but that's just moving your working hours around rather than getting extra time off. The pay is also lacking for anything but an entry level engineer. I'm sure it's largely dictated by what they can charge for your time, and companies aren't gonna pay more than they need. It's frustrating listening to customer engineers you work with talk about how great their bonus is this year. The only bonus you'll get from RFA is a modest gift card in December. Overall, the total compensation is not worth sticking around for. Get some time under your belt and leverage it to get somewhere else.

Thank you for your feedback! I am glad that you find positives in your position, as we are continually trying to make all of our employees' experiences better within the bounds of how we and our customers do business. While we do not have a formal "end of the year bonus" program, we do as you mention, provide employees the option at the end of every quarter to either get paid a cash bonus for their earned bonus time, or they are able to convert those bonus qualifying hours to standard PTO. The goal is to achieve ultimate flexibility, and help prepare for unforeseen client shut-downs or non-standard holidays, or just to provide additional time off to spend with your friends and family. Nearly all of our clients' employees work with standard salary compensation, so many times, their bonus is not only tied to the success of their company, but also tied to effort put in during the year (working long hours with no extra pay). Regardless, I hear your cons, and just know that we as a company are doing what we can to address. Thank you for being part of the team! We appreciate everything you do!
