Pros

For me, there are many “pros” to list, but one of the best aspects to working at Rapid is that the work is fulfilling. I’ve always wanted to help people in my career, and it’s very rewarding to assist a customer in need and work towards providing what is a crucial service to many people who rely on their alarm systems. The people that I work with are great; not only the people on my Team but also my supervisors and managers who are approachable and always available to help me – even in the middle of an alarm or task. There is a lot of support here, and Rapid has a dedicated training department that not only teaches you what you need to know to succeed, but also teaches new areas of monitoring in ongoing training as well. In my day to day, there is a lot of variety in the type of work which I appreciate to prevent things from feeling stale, and there is always something to work towards or learn. In prior jobs I’ve held there have sometimes been a lot of downtime and/or lacking direction, whereas at Rapid there is always something to do or learn and there is no question as to what I should be doing. The company is very mission-focused, and focuses on customer safety and customer service. Beyond this, Rapid always seems to be growing, and there are ample opportunities to grow with the company and apply for different positions within the many different departments. The building is pristine and had top-notch sanitation measures in place prior to COVID, and has a dedicated round-the clock cleaning and maintenance staff. During the peak of the pandemic, I often felt safer in the building than at home! Other than the above, I feel the compensation is competitive and benefits are great. There are usually opportunities to pick up additional hours if I would like to, and there are several reward programs which sometimes give monetary rewards or even paid days off. I don’t always participate, but Rapid is also fairly involved with the local community by participating in local run/walk benefits, sporting events, and adopt-a-highway community clean-up events. There are often in-office events too like theme weeks, appreciation weeks, financial seminars and flu clinics, and even sometimes host pizza Fridays and food trucks on site.

Cons

It seems like as we grow, policy and procedure can change unexpectedly sometimes which can be difficult. I’ve found meeting with my supervisors to be a helpful way to deal with any changes, especially if I have questions.

Pros

I've been with Rapid for a little over 5 years now, and I don't see myself going anywhere else. I've gone from being a regular operations specialist to a Sonitrol specialist, a Sonitrol team leader, and now to a Sonitrol shift supervisor. My pay has almost doubled in the last five years, and my direct management are fantastic. Working in a monitoring center is not easy. There are absolutely hard days and the work isn't for everyone, but I've had nothing but support and open communication from my management. There is a strong promote-from-within culture that I love. Most people here have a history of trying multiple career paths within Rapid, and I appreciate that they foster that fluidity to help people grow.

Cons

Some things can be a little strict, like needing to clock in within 3 minutes of your start time but not being able to clock in more than 5 minutes before it, and having to adhere to sharp timeframes for breaks and lunches. Otherwise, I love it here.

Pros

Great starting pay. Guaranteed 40 hours a week plus overtime is often available. Good benefits, plus advancement opportunities. Beautiful, clean, and a very professional work environment. I personally love my work schedule! They let me pick it out upon hiring based on what was available at that time. I enjoy the work a lot! It is fast paced but you are only taking one call at a time, and once you clock out you don't have any work to worry about or take home with you.

Cons

There isn't going to be a traditional 9am-5pm schedule available for new operators. You will work weekends and Holidays. You won't work at the same desk each day. Although they always need new operators, there is a very rigorous hiring process that consisted of the Wonderlic, critical thinking assessment, a typing test, 4 interviews, and a drug and background screening. After you complete the paid training, you have an exam to take. If you don't pass this exam with at least a B then you are immediately terminated. Very structured and strict working environment. Cell phones will be locked in your locker during your shift.
