Pros

The people are what make Rare special. I had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented, thoughtful, and collaborative colleagues who were genuinely passionate about the mission. The work was intellectually engaging, and I had the chance to contribute to meaningful research at the intersection of behavioral science and climate action. I appreciated the flexibility of remote work, supportive teammates, and the opportunity to work with partners and researchers across different disciplines. The organization encourages creativity and gives staff the chance to take ownership of projects, publish research, and develop new skills. For anyone interested in applied research, behavior change, or environmental conservation, it's a rewarding place to build experience.

Cons

The organization is heavily reliant on grant and donor funding, which can create uncertainty around long-term project planning. When funding priorities change, projects may be scaled back or end abruptly, which can affect job stability for the teams working on them. I was personally impacted by a workforce reduction due to budget constraints. While the mission and people are outstanding, employees should be aware that funding fluctuations can influence organizational stability.
