Pros
Recombinators has been the greatest decision i've made for my career and own personal growth. The leadership team is supportive and genuinely cares about maintaning work life balance, which is so rare in consulting. For example, we only travel when it's needed rather than every week, and we've recently been piloting a 4 day workweek which has been a total life-changer.
I have been allowed to grow as fast as I am comfortable with, moving into stretch roles as soon as i'm ready for them while still getting tons of support from leadership to make sure i have what i need to be successful.
The client work itself is also incredibly dynamic and rewarding. For me, it's the perfect balance of creativity and rigorous structure/analysis. I'm constantly learning new things, but still building a base of expertise that i can use from project to project.
Cons
Similar cons to all consulting firms across the board. Adapting to client working styles and relationship dynamics, and sometimes tight timelines can mean long hours.
It's also a small firm so there's more pressure to be a quick learner; an ineffective teammate has a huge negative impact on the rest of their team so it's even more important to learn quickly and add value.
