Pros

Stable industry - not as affected by the recession as others Challenging work environment Many counterparts for your position so there are a lot of resources to reach out to for advice, assistance and training and to vent to Decent amount of vacation time offered. Good learning experience and can always be used as a comparison whenever one feels bad about their post-Republic jobs. All they have to do is think about their days at Republic and they will automatically feel better about their post-Republic job, knowing that it could be worse, it could be like it was at Republic.

Cons

Very old, outdated and inefficient software systems and/or completely user unfriendly High turnaround - people are always either getting fired or laid off Because so many positions were eliminated, we all had to pick up the terminated employees responsibilitie, usually duties that were in no way related to what we were hired to do. The workload was already too much for tasks related to our job description, but then they piled on the extras so your main tasks suffered. We were often held responsible for department results like we were managers of them even though we weren't, there was no official title or position change, no manager compensation, etc. HUGE pay discrepancies between managers and subordinates. Little to no recognition for your hard work. Little to no training and roles are not clearly defined at all. Expect to be burnt out if you are a salaried employee. You will be putting in a minimum of 50 hours per week and that's on a good week. Good old boys club - major glass ceiling for female employees wanting to move up the corporate ladder. All they do is tell you how bad you're doing and do nothing to actually help make things better. Terrible culture. Work-life balance is thrown out the window-they don't care.

Pros

The pay is competitive, especially with overtime opportunities, and there is strong potential to earn a solid income for employees willing to work hard. The job also provides steady work and consistent hours, which can be valuable for drivers looking for financial stability.

Cons

The work/life balance for roll-off drivers can be difficult, particularly when working weekends. Drivers are often scheduled in a way that keeps hours under 60 while still requiring Saturday work, rather than being given an additional recovery day during the week. With the level of physical labor involved, one day off is often not enough to properly recover. There is also a heavy emphasis on “swinging” containers. While swings can make sense when locations are far apart, many are scheduled for stops that are very close together and provide little operational benefit. Swings add significantly more physical labor for drivers and, in some cases, can actually take longer than traditional service methods. Over time, consistently working 55–60 hour weeks under these conditions can lead to fatigue and burnout.
