Pros
I have been working for resolution for two years now and I feel infinitely lucky to be where I am. I wouldn't change it for a job at a hot startup, even if it paid better. For full disclosure: I work 100% remotely and only visit the Berlin office occasionally (because of the pandemic, very rarely until now). This means I can't really speak for the everyday dynamics at the office. However, I am very vocal about every other part I have experienced: - Unlike a startup, the mission of this company is not to grow for the sake of it. The mission is to be sustainable and to sustain a good livelihood for employees. - Being an Atlassian partner is an essential part of why this is possible. It's an incredibly healthy model that has generated many partner companies with very similar characteristics: small orgs that broke even organically without the need of external investments. And that shows in the culture, the pace, and the expectations. - There's not a CEO but two Co-CEOs. One with the technical vision. One with the strategic skillset to go to market. Both of them have corporate backgrounds. Which is great, because they know what they didn't like about that environment and they really focus on having a lean structure. - It's no wonder that me and many of my colleagues have families. Work has to be done, but it doesn't get in the way of our lives. I can be a great dad and a great professional at the same time. - Since I joined the company there has been a very clear vision to diversify, and that's been a great privilege and a very interesting journey. We basically run a spin-off for new products with the safety net of our mature offering. We experiment and learn without pressure or fear to fail. - We're scrappy but happy. We know we can't do everything we'd like to do. So we just prioritize. And the degree of freedom that we enjoy is simply astonishing. My manager is a great facilitator and does not like to micro manage details. - Everyone or almost everyone is a senior. It's a very horizontal team, both on the product and the marketing side. - And I don't feel comfortable about including this part because it feels like we're bragging, but our leadership also is committed to the greater good, gives money to charity and even hires professionals to give them a second opportunity when they're struggling. It's not a chance that I started working at resolution in May 2020.
Cons
resolution doesn't have the sexiest products in the market. We are very very niche and quite technical, and that's something that doesn't quite pan out for some folks. But we're working on improving that. Like many companies in the software industry, we struggle with the gender diversity. But we've also come a long way, it used to be 100% German men and now it's definitely richer, with more women and quite a few different nationalities (Brazil, Egypt, Spain, Ukraine or China for example). As a smaller company, if you're a very ambitious person and want to become the manager of a large team then it's probably not the best place for you.
