The best of the 3 forces...easily - Aircraft Technician (Avionics) Royal Air Force Employee Review

Pros

Great benefits such as free medical and dental care. Extremely cheap family housing. Amazing opportunities for sport and is probably the best thing about the Air Force. If you are a good sportsman/athlete then they shall throw money at you to compete and promote the RAF. Accommodation is generally a lot better than the other two forces.

Cons

Being an operational force, you can go away for anywhere up to 6 months at a time, sometimes this can also be at relatively short notice. Certain trades have a very very low promotion rate so you can be stuck with little to no progression for many years. Also, there is a minimum of 3 years that you have to do in rank before it's possible to get promoted again. In some cases this is probably a good thing, but for those who are extremely ambitious and driven it's a major roadblock. To the point where many have left due to them not being able to progress. In some areas the Air Force has not really moved with the times and could be considered an "old boys club". Some higher level management (particularly officers) are guilty of not listening to juniors even if they have a vast wealth of experience of the area in question.
